Use the tax advantage

Tax-free – even without a certificate

Under German law, employer benefits for health promotion are tax-free up to €600 per employee per year – an allowance, not a subsidy. This includes, for example, courses certified under Section 20 SGB V. With a structured workplace health promotion (WHP) process like the one EasyWHP provides, it is not limited to these.

In the end, only your tax adviser can confirm this – we set you up so that they can.

German law (Section 3 no. 34 EStG). Different rules may apply in your country.

Hi, I'm Anna, your WHP manager 👋 How can I help you today?

We have 40% sick leave in our warehouse. What do you recommend?

Anna

That's a critical figure — the German average in 2025 was 5.66% (BMG, KM1). I suggest: 1) book an ergonomics check in the warehouse, 2) start an anonymous mood survey and 3) recalculate your WHP score. Shall I create an action plan right away?

10 fields of action

From exercise to leadership: choose the field that matters most right now.

Field of action 1Insurance-funded

Movement

An effective lever — and the easiest way to start.

Movement is the field with the lowest barrier to entry and the broadest impact: from a shared lunchtime walk to running and yoga groups and active meetings. It is clearly separate from ergonomics (field 5) — this is about active movement, not about designing the workplace.

Why it pays off

Lack of movement is one of the biggest drivers of back, cardiovascular and mental complaints — and therefore of absence days. Even short, regular sessions noticeably lower the risk, and visible offers pay straight into retention and employer appeal. Many measures are eligible for health-insurance funding under § 20b SGB V.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Pillar 1: Occupational Health & Safety (⚖️ MANDATORY under ArbSchG). Pillar 2: BEM – Return-to-Work Management (⚖️ MANDATORY under SGB IX § 167). Pillar 3: Health Promotion (💚 Voluntary, but well worth it – around €2.7 per euro invested, according to the iga.Report average).

MANDATORY are 2 pillars: (1) Occupational safety incl. risk assessment (physical & psychological), (2) BEM after more than six weeks of incapacity to work within a year. VOLUNTARY is health promotion – but this is where you really benefit. Structured health promotion pays off: around €2.7 per euro invested, according to the iga.Report average.

ArbSchG (German Occupational Safety and Health Act) for occupational safety and risk assessments. SGB IX § 167 for BEM (workplace reintegration). And § 20b SGB V obliges German health insurers to offer workplace health promotion (WHP) services (German law). Whether your company is actually supported depends on how many of your employees are with the same insurer – for most companies, that is not enough.

Fines of up to €30,000 (Section 25 ArbSchG, German law) if an order from the labour inspectorate is not implemented, liability risk for workplace accidents, reputational damage, problems with dismissals if no BEM was offered. EasyWHP helps you tackle these obligations in a structured way.

§ 20b SGB V obliges German health insurers to offer workplace health promotion (WHP) (German law). Whether your company is supported depends on how many of your employees are with the same insurer – for many companies, that is not enough. We prepare you in a structured way for the conversation with your insurer, so that you can negotiate as an equal partner.

This is where you really benefit. Structured health promotion pays off – around €2.7 per euro invested, according to the iga.Report average – plus better employer branding. AND: health insurers gladly support prevention (§ 20b SGB V, German law).

That’s your call. The platform guides you step by step through all obligations – many manage it themselves. If you need a consultant later, you’re prepared and can speak as equals. Consultants are partners, not a requirement.

Register → do the 3-pillar check → start with whatever is most pressing. Within 30 minutes you'll see which obligations you have and how to tackle them.

Under German law, yes – if they are part of a structured workplace health promotion (WHP) process. Section 3 no. 34 EStG makes employer benefits for health promotion tax-free up to €600 per employee per year – an allowance, not a subsidy. Only prevention courses under Section 20 SGB V are certified; for your own measures within the process, such as active breaks, stress management or nutrition, no certification is intended. What is required is a needs analysis and the involvement of employees – exactly the process EasyWHP provides. Gym memberships, for example, are not covered. In the end, only your tax adviser can confirm this. Different rules may apply outside Germany.
